NORTHSIDE DOG TRAINING CLUB
A.V. CHAMPIONSHIP OBEDIENCE SHOW
SUNDAY 23rd JULY, 2017
Firstly, I would like to thank NDTC for asking me to judge the show and for the hospitality
given to me and my steward, Valerie McPhillips on the day, together with the nice lunch, drinks etc., and lastly but not least, thank you for the lovely gifts and card which are much appreciated. The committee, Julie Holmes, Pat O’Boyle , Miriam Lyons and Mary Power who organised a well run show, thank you. It made the day an enjoyable experience.
A special thanks to Valerie for being a most helpful steward and a pleasure to work with
during the day. Her efficiency and positive attitude helped make the classes run smoothly. Also, thank you, to Cathy McGuinness and Claire Lewis for acting as stay stewards in
The results are as follows:-
BEGINNERS 6 Entries, 2 trained, 1 worked.
1st Monika Ghita and Thor (Italian Corso). Some nice work but wide at times and crooked
sits. The break in the sit stay brought you over the 10 but keep up the good work.
Congratulations on your win.
NOVICE 13 Entries, 1 trained, 6 worked.
1st Chris Kane with Dexter. (Irish Red Setter). A lovely round, very accurate and nice left turns. A well deserved win, which takes you out of Novice. All your hard work has paid off, losing only 4 points. Enjoy “A” from here on. Congratulations on your win.
2nd Ann Marie Haughey with Charlie (Labrador) A another nice round with a clear recall
and only 1 point behind the winner. Well done. There was a run off for 2nd place.
3rd Noel Kelly with Akala (Border Collie) Akala was inattentive on lead but off lead did
some nice accurate work. Well done on your placing.
4th Monika with Caesar (Chow Chow) Heel on lead better than off lead. Recall was very
slow. Nevertheless some nice neat work. Well done.
SPECIAL BEGINNERS 32 Entries, 3 trained, 17 worked.
1st Emer Page with Shoka (Shetland Sheepdog) This dog played very enthusiastically
and was well motivated going into heel work with appropriate rewards. A lovely recall. Well done on your win. There was a run off for 1st place. A lovely team.
2nd Claragh Lewis with Poppy (Cross Breed) Similarly to above. Poppy loves to play
and he kept up his happy attitude in heel work and in the recall. He can do some
lovely work for you when he is focused. Again well done on your two placings
in this class.
3rd Claragh Lewis with Jessie (Golden Retriever) You really got Jessie motivated for
heel work and she worked well as a result. Another good placing on the day. There
was a run off for this position.
4th Monika Ghita with Caesar (Chow Chow) Great play with your plastic lid. Your
dog was really enjoying it and lovely heel work as a result. A placing in each class
at this show, was a great achievement. Congratulations.
While there were only 4 placings in this class, there was very little difference in
markings as you all really motivated your dogs in a very happy playful way and
the dogs seem to really enjoy themselves. Some sit stays were costly but well
done to you all for encouraging your dogs in such a positive manner and not
one dog left the ring bored, the contrary, so hopefully they will remember and
associate the obedience ring with fun. Congratulations to you all
Last but not least, the Clara Barker Bowls Memorial Shield for Special Beginners
and the judge’s choice, was open to all, not just those who were placed in Special Beginners. This went to Mary Rose Hickey with Storm (Labrador Retriever) . A lovely team with lots of fun play and rewards and a very stylish dog that has a great future. Your handling and enthusiasm with Storm is very positive and you worked continuously to keep him motivated. Congratulations Mary Rose, a well deserved winner. This attractive Shield was presented by Julie Holmes in memory of her dog.
Thanks to all competitors and best wishes with your dogs for the future.
